Study 9: The Resurrection of Jesus


1) Did anything surprise you when you read about the death of Jesus?

Jesus death is not the end of the story.

Read Luke 24:1-53

Words
Messiah: A special king or leader who the Jews believed would rescue them from the Romans and restore Israel.
Angels: Spiritual messengers from God.
Prophets: People who God used to tell people how to live in relationship with God and each other.
Scripture: The Jewish sacred writings. In the bible these are called the ‘Old Testament’.

2) Who went to the tomb “very early on Sunday morning”?


3) Why did they go to the tomb?


4) How did they respond when they were told by the ‘men’ that Jesus had risen from the dead?


5) How do the two followers of Jesus describe Jesus?


6) What did they think Jesus was going to do?


7) How does Jesus respond to this?


8) At what point is Jesus’ identity revealed to them?


9) Re-read Mark 14:22-25. Why is the timing of this revelation so important?


10) Why did the disciples not understand what Jesus had predicted about what would happen to him?


11) How is Jesus’ body after the resurrection similar and different to a normal human body?


12) What task does Jesus give his followers to do?


13) How did he equip them to do this?


14) How does this address the problem of sin and evil?
